Spanish renewable energy company Energia Aljaval intends to build a 300-MW photovoltaic (PV) plant in Mexico’s Chihuahua state, the firm announced on Tuesday.
The Alsacia solar park, as it is named, is expected to be able to generate around 840 GWh per year. Connection to the national grid of the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) is scheduled to happen by the end of 2021.
Currently, Energia Aljaval is seeking commercial outlets interested in part of Alsacia’s output. During the next 20 years, the new PV facility is set to offset around 6 million tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, the company said in its press release.
In addition to the new solar scheme, Energia Aljaval has eight plants in its Mexican portfolio, which represents a total capacity of 663 MW in direct current (DC). The firm will continue to invest in the Mexican sector, targeting another nine solar projects with an additional capacity of 1.8 GW.
